Odds and Ends

I'm feeling a little stressed this morning (and this time it has nothing to do with the kids!). Here's why:

1. Was it just me, or did we have an earthquake last night. Around 4:40 I woke up and our bed was shaking (and making a squeaky sound). Kory felt it to. It didn't last very long, but it freaked me out and took me awhile to fall back asleep. My mind was racing. I kept imagining future earthquakes and planned out how I would get my kids to safety.

2. Once I finally did fall asleep I dreamt I was at the airport getting ready to leave the country and realized I did not have my suitcase and (more importantly) my carry-on items (i.e. ipod, headphones and book). Kory ran home to find the items for me, but everyone was loading the plane. I don't know if I made it or not, but I think I did. Regardless, I woke up feeling stressed

3. I've been reading through the Bible in a year. When I woke up, I read the story of the Levite whose concubine got raped and who then cut her up and delivered pieces of her body to the other tribes of Israel. That didn't really help calm my nerves.

4. I just got off the phone with Jami and we DID have an earthquake last night. She said it measured at 5.2 on the richter scale and was centered in the Chicagoland area. The first thing that ran through my mind when I woke up to the quake was "Kory's having a seizure!" Have we ever had an earthquake in this area before?

5. Simon is starting to say "I'm Jonah," so beware.

6. I'm not quite sure how to end this post, so I will just say that I am feeling a little less stressed as the morning progresses. Have a good Friday everyone!

What in the world?! I totally didn't know we had an earthquake last night! How scary...I'm glad I slept thru it. I must be so tired from having a new baby that once I'm asleep, I'm out.

Btw...I think it's hilarious that Simon is saying that he's Jonah!

Hope your day gets less stressful!

I felt it, too. Of course, I was half asleep, and the thought of an earthquake didn't even register. However, I had trouble falling back asleep because I wondered if our furnace was going to blow up! Then I wondered if it did, would we be killed or just maimed. The things you worry about at night!

That Simon! Made me laugh.

I felt it too. The windows were shaking. I thought the tree had fallen over and was hitting the window. CRAZY!

At first, I thought we were being robbed and someone was trying to get in . . .although when i looked at the clock and saw 4:40, I thought it had to be a dumb burgler to break in when my husband was about to wake up. : ) Definately woke us up. Made me wonder about the times when you feel an earthquake in the middle of illinois!

wow with simon. their teachers have some fun days ahead! : )

I don't know why, but my mind doesn't usually go to worst-case scenario. Is it a mom function that hasn't switched on in my brain yet? Is it too positive an attitude? I woke up (it was just about 3 minutes before my alarm goes off for work anyway), we thought it was wind, and I went back to sleep, kind of vaguely dreaming how great it would be if it was time to go HOME and that the lamps and bed shaking was part of it!

Now all day, I've just been kind of marvelling how crazy this is- we get the excitement of an earthquake without the damage or injuries! I love central IL!

Crazy thing is, people in Bluffton woke up to the same earthquake! Amazing it can span that far. I was kinda disappointed I slept through it.
Hang in there Megan - Hope you can still enjoy your weekend.

We slept through it, much to our dismay. Sigh.

So funny about Simon. I'll be on the lookout tonight! : )

I hear you Megan! I woke up, grabbed Tater's arm and said, We're having an earthquake! (It woke me up and I could tell not only my bed but the walls were shaking). By the time he woke up, of course it was over. He said there was no earthquake so of course I believed him and thought I was crazy. An hour later he could tell that I was still stirring. He asked if I was still thinking about the earthquake. No, my stress had moved on to other things. If only I could give ALL my cares to God. It is something I think I'll be working on the rest of my life.

We did not feel it, must be the new baby. But I thought I heard thunder and I could not go back to sleep either, because I knew the windows on the porch were open. Things always seem worst at night then during the day. Why is that?

Didn't feel it, but Kyle was up with Addison and he didn't even feel it! It was actually centered in West Salem which is the southern part of Illinois. But I do hear that it rattled some buildings downtown! And a joint popped in one of our busy roads up here! Crazy. I do remember an earthquake a long while ago when I was probably still in grade school. We were eating dinner at the time. On the news they said that they occur every 10 to 20 years, so I was probably 10 yrs when that happened. Crazy stuff!

I was in Bluffton sleeping on an air mattress and thought there was a mouse under it or something...needless to say, the thought of a mouse made me wide away for the rest of the night (or day, I guess).
