Momumental - A Book Review and Giveaway

When I was asked to read and review a copy of the book Momumental:Adventures in the Messy Art of Raising a Family, I said yes, in part because the title was just so familiar. The “Messy Art of raising a family”:  yes, I can relate.

The book arrived, and I was reminded that I had read a book by this author before, and enjoyed it. (“Love you More” by Jennifer Grant is an adoption memoir that I would recommend if you are interested in adoption, but you can read more of my thoughts on that here.) Our previous history, gave me another reason to want to dive into Jennifer’s newest release.  And once I did, I discovered a pleasant, relevant tale of mommyhood.

In this memoir-style book, Jennifer looks back over her years of family experience, from her dreams of what family should look like as a little girl to the reality of what her family became as a mom and adult. She shares many of her family’s sweet, funny, and real-life moments as well as the lessons she learned along the way.

This book would be a great gift for a first-time mom, applicable for a mom in the midst of the preschool years, or grade school years or beyond. Motherhood can sometimes be a lonely job and any reminder that you are not alone should be grabbed at. This is one of those reminders. Jennifer is a talented writer and it was a pleasure to read her newest work, Momumental.

As an added bonus, I am excited to give away one copy of this book to one of you. To enter the giveaway, simply leave a comment sharing why you love being a mom, or why you love your mom. I will announce a winner on Friday.

***DISCLOSURE NOTICE: A free copy of this book was supplied to me for the purpose of review by publisher. No monetary exchange was given. All comments and wording in this review are purely my own.

I love being a Mom because there is no greater joy than seeing the children you love, smile, look into your eyes and tell you how much they love you. I feel like I have a better understanding of God's love for us through what I've seen in my relationship with my children.

Being a mom is the hardest most rewarding job in the world! I thought I was a bpretty good person until they proved me otherwise over and over. Selfishness, pride, ideals, laziness, priorities etc have all had to be checked and reevaluated. They have made be better.

love being a mom because...it has fulfilled a longing inside of me to see life- and I got to be a small part of it. It has taught me so many things about myself and the kiddos make me laugh and cry.

wouldn't have it any other way.

So glad I saw this giveaway on FB! Why I love being a mom? Too many reasons to put into words, but one of the biggest things has been that loving my kids has helped me to understand how much God loves me. When you are a parent and you experience that unconditional love for your kids, it starts to sink in just how much God loves you, no matter what.
(The book sounds great!)

I love being a mom because of the joy I feel when my kids tell me they love me, or when they choose the right thing without my telling them. I love who they are becoming. and I loved this book--reading it was like sitting down with a good friend to talk honestly about the good, the bad and the messy! I already own a copy but just couldn't resist sharing!

I love being a mom so much it's hard to put into words. I agree with all the commenters before me and I think part of the reason I love it so much (even when it's not going good or easy) is because being a Mom is what God created me to do/be.

I miss you Ringger girls! Glad for the internet so we can kind-of stay updated on each other's lives. :)

I love being a mom because of the way my kids force me to reexamine my priorities. They have made life busier, but it some ways they have slowed it down for me, as I find myself spending more time enjoying the simpler things with them. It is such a blessing and a privilege to be a mom!

Being a Mom has been the hardest but best job I have ever had...it definitely stretches me beyond myself, and gives me a HUGE appreciation for my own Mom.

Hi Megan! I love being a mother because even though I was going crazy with my children for the last couple of hours this one moment makes it all worthwhile! And also because it takes some crazy days in life to really enjoy the serene ones :)... Plus all of the above! Love, Jenny
