Watch out Turkey!

Thursday is Thanksgiving.

Its a big day. It will be the first time I host Thanksgiving at my own home. It will also be the first time I roast a turkey.

I am a little intimidated.

Check out that red mound of holiday meat. I can hear it trash talking from the garage refrigerator. It taunts me as it slowly thaws.

"You better have plenty of gravy cause I'm gonna be one dry bird."

"You better have lunch and dinner plans cause I ain't gonna be ready til Friday."

"Your momma..."

Enough.

Better watch yourself turkey, your days are numbered. Taunt me if you wish, it ain't gonna change the outcome. I'm gonna roast you like there's no tomorrow...

Yum, Yum!

Go, Megan! You can do it! If you don't enjoy cleaning the fridge you may want to throw a cookie sheet or large pan under that birdie before he thaws anymore. :)

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Go Megan! You can do it!!! You are so funny! We just did our first turkey this weekend and it was so fun. We brined it (allrecipes.com) and it was so moist. Just a tip, if you are interested.

Roasting turkeys are easy - you just need to be sure to leave enough time to get it cooked for dinner.(we have one every christmas - since we don't celebrate thanksgiving over here!) Hope it all goes well & you have a wonderful day with your family!

First, I love that your turkey talks to you, sencondly I love that when it talks to you it says, "your mamma". I laughed out loud when I read that....

i feel the same way about cooking a turkey. i can never accomplish what brenda can do. probably never will. the bit about the gravy was especially familiar sounding.

I'm doing my first Thursday too. Wasn't that nervous until I read your post.... there are a lot of things that could go wrong, aren't there? We'll have to swap notes on Sunday. Good luck!

Megan,
Have fun making your first turkey...I've done it a few times and I just want to reassure you...I think when our Moms made it seem difficult it was to garner some loud, "blessings on you, oh Proverbs 31 Mother!" It's really not that hard...especially if you have those handy bags they sell now days...and they ahve those handy little timer things that can pop out of the chicken to tell you they are done.

So, hope you have a great time hosting!

err....I meant timers that pop out of the TURKEY!!
