I too want to use that worry as a trigger to pray for those God-sent kids who look past differences and just see a new friend. I was one of those kids, as I remember my childhood. And I also believe it was God who would move me to sit down beside the lonely one or invite over the new kid. For example, put a bag of boneless, skinless chicken in the crockpot for several hours and then shred it and put it in the freezer. Whenever you make a recipe that calls for cooked chicken, you already have it. You can also grill the chicken and cut it in slices. I also did this for ground beef and ham chunks. We used those three things a lot when we had hungry kids.
Cindy E. https://www.blogger.com/profile/12889117668380110551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34759469.post-92103819743116357242013-09-09T13:25:56.679-07:002013-09-09T13:25:56.679-07:00I'm teaching a literature class for our co-op ...I'm teaching a literature class for our co-op junior high and high schoolers this year. I just finished our first selection, The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom, and am starting Romeo and Juliet. We're using a version that has Early Modern English on one page with a modern translation on the other, which makes it much easier to understand. I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I don't like having the TV on a lot in our home, but when we watch a show and the news follows I immediately shut the TV off because I do not want to hear more bad news about our city and the world.

And then my sister, who lives in the middle east, makes a comment about embassy closings and I have no clue what she's talking about. And I think I should. I finally starting reading about Syria yesterday because if I don't know what's going on, I can't pray. This is long-winded. Anyway, I appreciated your thoughts and have been feeling convicted about not trying to pretend things aren't happening. It's much easier to watch Parks and Rec. :)emilykatehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10784297110405765960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34759469.post-74336087368139890122013-08-30T06:20:04.548-07:002013-08-30T06:20:04.548-07:00Love it! Joel subscribes the World magazine so I can get my news fix from a Christian perspective. I love it, even if the news is often almost 2wks old (it's a bimonthly mag)... There is always something I had not heard/read, and I appreciate their editorials.
For my secular new fix, although I will occasionally go to CNN, my main source of information is fox, because I feel as though they don't have as much of an agenda (or arguably a conservative one, which is why I'll see what CNN has to say). I try to just stick to the headlines however, because unlike newsprint or tv, you can keep going link after link on the pc.
